Stan Wawrinka has completed a magical fortnight of tennis with his finest performance of all, stunning Novak Djokovic to win his first Roland-Garros title.
Having beaten No.2-ranked Roger Federer in the quarter-finals, Wawrinka played with power, aggression and consistency – and used his stellar one-handed backhand to devastating effect – to record a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 victory over the world No.1 in the final.
It is his second Grand Slam title, following his victory at Australian Open 2014. Djokovic, meanwhile, who earlier in the tournament had ousted nine-time champion Rafael Nadal, fell in his third final in Paris, and remains without a French Open title to complete his career Slam set.
