Stan Wawrinka retired on Thursday night after 55 minutes of his opening match at the Open 13 Provence.
“Practice went well during the last two days, but a match is always different. It’s obviously difficult, but I need to focus on the positive things each day and keep working hard,” said Wawrinka.
Belarusian qualifier Ilya Ivashka, currently No. 193 in the ATP Rankings, was leading 6-4, 1-1 when Wawrinka retired.
